Grown up in Pforzheim, Benjamin Schofer now calls Lech am Arlberg his home. The Assistant General Manager at Hotel Arlberg Lech gathered years of experience in the hotel business – including Toronto, Paris, Vienna, and Los Angeles – and also trained at the renowned École hôtelière in Lausanne. Today, he and his parents are making sure that guests feel at home at the five-star luxury hotel high up in the mountains.
How important is feedback from guests and what influence does it have on daily work with regard to communication between the staff and guests, and at hotel events?
Feedback from our guests, and also from our employees, is immensely important to me. It’s the only way we can evaluate our product and our services, and, if necessary, make improvements. As a small family business, it’s easier for us to react to feedback. This is something our guests especially appreciate. Soon we are going to install a screen in our staff cafeteria that will inform all personnel of the latest guest feedback.
Lech am Arlberg is, without a doubt, one of the best locations in winter. During the summer season, a “Rallye Packages” is offered. What is that?
We’re able to offer the “Rallye Packages” thanks to our relationship with Mercedes-Benz – a partnership we are very proud of. On these tours, guests get to know our beautiful mountains from a whole new perspective – especially in summer, you can discover so many wonderful spots while driving selected, latest Mercedes-Benz vehicle models. These are places that you normally wouldn’t even be able to access in winter. My tip: definitely take a drive through Lechtal and the Hochtannbergpass.
What’s a must for the perfect Austrian cuisine experience?
Hands down, the Wiener schnitzel at our Walserstube. As simple as it may sound, sometimes the classics are just the best.
What makes the wine cellar at Hotel Arlberg so special?
Our wine cellar is not only a storage place but more of a kind of show room where guests can taste around 500 wines. Naturally, focus is placed on Austrian wine because people visiting here would like to get to know wine from the region, after all.
What is the nicest après-ski place?
For all epicures who would like to finish the day off with après-ski, the Perrier-Jouët Champagne Lounge on our hotel sun veranda is just the place to be – very elegant and super chic. Otherwise, I recommend the Balmalp of innkeeper Rudi Walch, who is truly a born host and entertainer.
